HAYYYYY!! OK ........ In commentary of Michael Jackson's contribution to the music business:
1. I find it very ironic that Michael passed away, less than a month before he was supposed to start his 50 date tour at London's 02 Arena. I remember watching the press conference regarding the concert dates, and how many of the reporters questioned if Michael would follow through with his commitment or find a way out.
2. From OFF THE WALL through DANGEROUS, I thought Michael was an artist who continued to grow. However, around the DANGEROUS tour, his dance steps and song selection began to feel stale. If you watch any of his videos from the late 80's and 90's, the choreography is just a continual repeat of "Billie Jean,""Beat It," and "Bad." The songs in his later albums, HISTORY and INVINCIBLE, were merely re-treads. He may have been labeled the "King of Pop," but he never had the artistic growth of Madonna or even Prince.
3. PEOPLE! Get ready for at least two years of Michael Jackson tribute sections on award shows, MJJ quickie bios, one or two tribute albums, and numerous re-releases of all the Jackson 5, Jacksons, and solo Michael cds.
4. I know that this will sound morbid, but get ready for the estate fight of the decade. Joe Jackson in one corner versus everyone from Quincy Jones to Janet in the other. If I was Debbie Rowe, I would be calling the best attorneys in the business.
5. I'm glad to see that someone like Madonna providing a response to MJ's passing. But Pete Wentz? Miley Cyrus? Heidi whats-her-name? Please! These kids were not even born when MJJ was at his Billie Jean peak! I wonder what Miss Ross will say?
Meanwhile, back at the Hall of Justice ........
