OK .. been a few days since I posted. Been away on a mini vacation, work, yada yada. The mini vacation was great due to the fact that I got out of Atlanta! I need to admit to myself that I have a huge love-hate relationship with this city [if such a thing with a city is possible]. In my mind, Atlanta always has the same boring restaurants, never enough good bookstores [ie .. the anti chains], and way, way too much traffic. On top of this, Atlanta, the "entity" has never been successful in the finding me a boyfriend or a group of good gay male friends.

Soooo, if I have such a loathsome feeling toward this city, why don't I leave? Good question and the answer seems to remain the same - work. My previous two jobs, and my current one, are based in Atlanta and do not have any locations outside of the city. And I also have that voice inside my head [and not the one that goes, Music! Makes the people come together ....!] that says, if you can not make it in Atlanta, how do you know it will be better elsewhere? "Life is not always greener on the other side of the tracks ...."

One thing that I did do while away was see SPIDERMAN 3 on Friday, 5/4. I found the movie to be very anticlimatic. Like many reviews I've read, I feel that the movie tried to cram too much into too little time. The ending, the battles, etc were all very scripted .. ie .. you could see what was going to happen 5 to 10 minutes before it actually did. A list of my observations:

-- Kirsten Dunst really got on my nerves. The film showed her having very little talent, which, ironically, is why she is fired from a Broadway role in the movie. I was surprised that so little was done in this movie to advance the character of Mary Jane Watson. She just constantly seem to whine. And let's not even talk about "reality" with Mary Jane. Even if you are let go from a Broadway musical, you don't just start working as a waitress / singer in a jazz nightclub in 2 days .. that is what agents and contracts are for!
-- I am not one to judge, but Tobey has now gotten too old to be playing Peter Parker [not necessarily Spiderman]. He looks too old to still be an undergrad. And his face looks too "fleshy" for someone in their early 20's. I noiticed in this film there were no tight shirts / shirtless scenes of Tobey. Maybe he did not train as hard for #3.
-- James Franco as Harry Osborn, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May and Bryce whatever-her-name-is as Gwen Stacy were ok, but very, very bland. And just why was the character of Gwen Stacy in the film? She did not add anything except to make Mary Jane mad when Spiderman kissed her. Come on Mary Jane .. Publicity!
-- Finally, my one truly good observation. Topher Grace as Eddie Brock / Venom! Loved the character who was incredibly under used. Here you have a guy who has gone over the edge, has a suit that can match Spiderman power for power and more .. and you only use him in the last 20 minutes. In my opinion, the Eddie Brock / Venom story should have been the entire focus of # 3. But what do I know?

On another note, I have recently discovered the stand up comedian Maria Bamford on I-tunes [whom I should just give my paycheck too these days]. Very, very funny woman!

ALL THAT AND A WEB SLINGER!
